ADHD & Autism Assessment & Support
At Weight Management Psychology, we understand the complex relationship that neurodiverse people have with eating, physical activity, weight, and body image. To enhance our support of our neurodiverse clients, we offer a range of assessment and support services.
Our neurodiversity assessments are currently conducted by Dr Tom Hannan, who is experienced in the assessment and support of neurodiverse profiles such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and autism.
Tom is also available for ongoing support for neurodiverse clients, and works closely with their Psychiatrists and other mental health practitioners to ensure that each client receives an appropriate combination of behavioural and medical support.

Why get assessed for ADHD / autism / neurodiversity?
Understanding your neurotype can provide valuable insights into your relationship with food and challenges with weight management.
People with ADHD often experience challenges with meal planning and preparation due to executive functioning struggles, forgetting to eat and then bingeing later, or impulsivity that makes it harder to resist temptations and regulate eating.
Many autistic individuals often face different but equally valid challenges, such as sensory sensitivities, strong food preferences, difficulties with appetite awareness, or a need for routine around meals. Neurodiverse people may also struggle with interoception differences (e.g., their ability to sense hunger and fullness), emotional eating, or navigating food-related social expectations.
A neurodiversity-affirming ADHD or autism assessment can help you recognise these differences as natural aspects of your brain’s wiring, rather than personal failures. With this understanding, you can develop strategies that work with your unique needs and preferences, making eating healthily and managing your weight a more comfortable and sustainable experience.
The assessment process
To help provide neurodiversity assessments in a way that is right for you, we offer two available assessment options:
Option 1: Assessment split across 2 x 1.5-hour sessions
Option 2: Assessment completed in a single 3-hour session
Assessments can be completed in person at the clinic or online via Telehealth.
Please note: Your psychologist will ask that you complete a range of screening questionnaires before your first session. These questionnaires must be completed prior to your initial session.
+ Comprehensive Report & 1-hour feedback session
After the assessment session(s), your psychologist will prepare a comprehensive report for you. You will then return for a feedback session, where your psychologist will talk you through your results, including any relevant diagnoses, and provide you with a copy of your report.
You and your psychologist can then discuss further support options, including appropriate behavioral and medical support.
Please note: Your psychologist cannot prescribe any medications relating to any diagnoses. If you meet the criteria for a diagnosis, and are interested in medication, your psychologist is happy to forward your report to a psychiatrist, and provide any behavioural support to supplement any medication prescribed.
Assessment costs & payment installment details
To help financially with your assessment completion, we offer payment in installments.

- Payment #1 for Assessment Session 1: Required 48hrs before the session (1.5 hours = $382.50)

- Payment #3 for Comprehensive Report + Feedback Session: Remaining fee required 48hrs before the final feedback session (cost to be confirmed before the final session, typically between $1020 – $1530, depending on how long your psychologist spends preparing your report)*.
Payment Option 2

- Payment #1 for Assessment Session 1: Full payment for assessment session required 48hrs before the session (3 hours = $765)
- Payment #2 for Comprehensive Report + Feedback Session: Remaining fee required 48hrs before final feedback session (cost to be confirmed before the final session, typically between $1020 – $1530, depending on how long your psychologist spends preparing your report)*.
The typical cost of the assessment, comprehensive report, and feedback session is generally $2,040, but will depend on how long the clinician spends on preparing your report.
*Please note: Unlike some other clinics, which charge a standard 8+ hours for preparing the report and delivering the feedback session, our psychologists will only charge for time actually spent preparing the report and delivering the feedback session. This means that if the report takes less time to prepare, our clients benefit from the significant savings.
